It is known that probiotics, useful microorganisms similar to “friendly” bacteria living in human bowels, help digestion. Both official and alternative medicines believe that they are helpful in cases of diarrhea, urinary tract infections, irritable bowels syndrome and similar. Recently, Canadian researchers published an article in the magazine of American Society of Experimental Biology, (FASEB) which explains the way some types of probiotics alleviate digestion problems. It was shown that probiotic called Lactobacillus reuteri, which can be found in the bowels of many mammals, directly influence stomach nerves. The research showed that in the span of several minutes after taking probiotic solution the force of muscular contraction in the stomach diminishes - which explains why probiotics helps immediately in the cases of irritable bowels syndrome, constipation and similar types of discomfort...
Probiotics are to be found in yoghurt, kefir, as well in common macrobiotic products, tempeh and miso paste.
